Madinah Al Munawwarah (the Illuminated City)-The First Capital Of Islam

  Assalamu Alaika, Ayyuhan-Nabiyya wa Rahmatul-lahi wa Barakatuhu

Peace be on you, Oh Prophet, and the mercy and blessings of Allaah.

The Radiant City is called Al Munawarah because it was enlightened by the light of Islam, and the light [Noor] of  our Beloved Prophet Muhammad (Sallal Laahu ‘Alaiehi Wa Sallam)  ever since then and it continues to carry us into the light that illuminates the universe.

  It is known by more than 90 names that generally denote  love respect and devotion, the city is most commonly called  Madinah (city), short for Madinah Al-Nabi (City of the Prophet)

Taiebah (good, pleasant}, is the name by which the Messenger of Allaah (Sallal Laahu ‘Alaiehi Wa Sallam)  eloquently and lovingly spoke of it, some of the beloved city’s name are  Al-Miskeenah (the Humble), Al-Jibaarah (the Extraordinary), Al-Mujboorah (the Formidable), Al  Jaabirah (the Comforter), Al Mahboobah (the Beloved), Al Qaasamah (the Destroyer of Disbelief), Daar Al Abraar (Abode of the Justified), Daar Al Hijrah (Centre of Emigration), Daar As Salaam (Abode of Peace), Daar Al Fath (Centre of Conquest), Al Mukhtaarah (the Preferred), Al Saalihah (the Excellent), Daar Al Mustafa (Abode of the Chosen), Qariyah Al Ansaar (Village of the Helpers), Dthaat Al Nakhl (Possessed of Date Palms), Sayyidah Al Baldaan (Eminent of Towns), Dthaat Al Harraar (Possessor of Nobility), Daar Al Akhyaar (Abode of Superiority), Al Marhoomah (the Kindness), Al Khairah (the Best), Al Shaafa’ah (the Mediator), Al Mubaarakah (the Blessed}

It was the first capital of Islaam, it embraces the Prophet’s Mosque and contains the final resting place ,óf the most Beloved of all time, the Prophet Muhammed (Sallal Laahu ‘Alaiehi Wa Sallam) 

The Prophet  himself participated in the construction of this mosque, possessively calling it "his mosque" and led prayers in it for years. It was a city which loved the Prophet and which he in turn loved.  He has also said that a salah (prayer) performed in this Mosque is better than a thousand salahs in any other place except Masjid al-Haram in Makkah.
