The Nobility & Greatness of Saladin Ayyubi the

 Great Muslim Ruler...

Saladin is recognized as the most significant Muslim commander of the Crusades. His courageous behaviors were noted by Christian chroniclers, and despite being the opponent of the Crusaders he won the respect of many of them, including Richard the Lion heart; rather than becoming a hated figure in Europe, he became a celebrated example of the principles of heroism. Both were so passionate that the whole war seemed to be a personal duel between the two great leaders.

“When Richard falls sick at the siege of Acre in 1192, Saladin not only sends his personal physician Maimonides over to treat him, he sends ice to help him fight the fevers and certain healing fruits. When Richard’s horse is killed during battle, Saladin sends him two fresh mounts so

he will not be at a disadvantage,” … wrote Michael Hamilton Morgan because he wasn’t interested in winning the unequal battle. The Crusaders, who were eager and desperate were bewildered at that respectable gesture from their opponent.”

According to the French historian, Rene Grousset,

“It is equally true that [Saladin’s] generosity, his piety, devoid of fanaticism, that flower of liberality and courtesy, which had been the model of our old chroniclers, won him no less popularity in Frankish Syria than in the lands of Islam.”

When he conquered Jerusalem, many Christians were offered free passage out of the land. The ones that were held captive were allowed to buy freedom. Men had to pay ten dinars, women had to pay five dinars, and children had to pay one.
