THE FIRST SURAH OF
THE HOLY QURAAN!
WHY IS SURAH ‘FAATIHAH’
THE GREATEST SURAH?
According to the Saying of the Holy Prophet Surah Al-Faatiha is the greatest Surah in the Holy Quraan. This Surah has many benefits as was mentioned to us by the Prophet ﷺ.
“IT CAN BE USED TO WARD OFF EVIL AND AS A GENERAL HEALING.”

Aameen - So be it
Surah/Soorah Al-Faatiha was
revealed in Makkah, and it consists of 7 Verses [Ayaat] and 25
words.
It is the first and
most important Surah of the Holy Quraan, and Muslims all over the world recite
it many times daily in their prayers.
The word الفاتحة
came from the root word فتح which means to open, explain, disclose, keys of
treasure etc. That means Surah Al-Faatiha is the summary of the whole Quraan.
That is why we recite another Verse/Ayaat or Surah along with Faatiha in our
prayers. That is, Surah Al-Faatiha is combined with rest of the whole Quraan.
Hazrat Abu Hurairah
[Radiyal Laah Anhu] narrates that the Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ have said:
It is also called
‘Umm Al-Kitaab’ ‘the Mother of the Book’,‘Umm Al-Quraan’ ‘the Mother of the
Quraan’; and Sab'a al Mathani ‘Seven repeated [verses]’,
[Tirmidhi: 3124]
It was narrated by
Hazrat Ubadah bin As-Samit [Radiyal Laah Anhu] that Holy Prophet ﷺ have said:
"Whoever does not recite Al-Faatiha in his prayer, his
prayer is invalid."
[Saheeh Al-Bukhari:
756]
