HAZRAT IMAAM HUSAEIN رضی اللہ عنہ LEAVES FOR KUFAA…& ENCOUNTER WITH
HURR
It was divinely ordained that on the
very day when Hazrat Imaam Muslim رضی اللہ عنہ was
martyred Hazrat Imaam Husaein رضی اللہ عنہ was leaving Makkah with his family
and followers.
After Batn’e-Aqba, they reached
Ashrāaf, from here during the morning they moved towards Zee- Hashm where they
pitched their camp at the foot/outskirt of the mountain. Here Hurr Bin Yazeed
Riyaahi Tameemi, who was sent by the government of Yazeed with 1,000 armed
riders/soldiers to arrest Hazrat Imaam Husaien رضی اللہ عنہ arrived in this
region as compete and pitched their camps facing the caravan. At the time of
Zuhr Salaah, Hazrat Imaam Husaien رضی اللہ عنہ ordered the Aazaan to be given,
and afterward, he stood before Hurr’s legion, and after praising Almighty
Allaah [Hamd O Sanaa] gave the following speech.
SPEECH…OF HAZRAT IMAAM HUSAIEN رضی اللہ
عنہ
“O, people, I seek pardon from Allaah Ta’aalaa and you. I have not come to you by myself. Rather, your messages and deputations/envoys came to me saying, “We have no leader, come to us, so that Allaah Ta’aalaa may put us on the path of salvation through your guidance and blessings “, Now I am here so be steadfast on your promise and statements, pledge an agreement with me through which I will gain complete satisfaction. If you do this, I will proceed to your city, and if not and my coming is not bearable to you, I will return to where I came from.”
After these words, there was silence,
and no one answered… then you instructed the Muazzin to give the second call
for prayers [Iqāmaah] and asked Hurr, “Will you perform the Prayers [Salaah]
with me or separately?” He answered, “Why separately? We will all perform
Salaah behind you.” Hazrat Imaam Husaien رضی اللہ عنہ then led the Salaah and
went to his camp afterward. Hurr, too proceeded to his own camp. At Asr time,
you gave instruction to your caravan to prepare and told the Muazzin to give
Aazaan… all again performed Salaah behind the Imaam, after the prayers and
after Praising [Hamd o Sanaa] of Allaah Ta’aalaa you delivered the following
speech,
People! if you fear Almighty Allaah
and recognize the ‘The Truth’ [Haqq] of the people of truth, then this will be
a means of Almighty Allaah’s pleasure and salvation. We, the Family of the
Prophet [Ahle Baiet], are more worthy of the Caliphate than those who claim it
and rule over you with oppression and tyranny whereas they have no right to
rule. If you dislike us, and do not recognize our right, and if [today] your
opinion is contrary to what your letters and delegations have conveyed and
expressed to me, I will leave you.”
Hurr said, “Oath upon Allaah! we do
not know about the letters and delegations you speak of.” You said to Aqbah Bin
Sam’āan to bring the bags of letters sent to him from the people of Kufaa, he
bought the bags …you emptied the bags upside down in front of everyone. Seeing
the letters, Hurr said, “We are not one of those who wrote to you. We have
received the instruction not to leave you until you are brought before Ibne
Ziyaad in Kufa.”
I want to take you to Ibne Ziyaad! Hazrat
Imaam Husaien replied… I will not cooperate with you on this!
Hurr said Oath upon Allaah! I will
also not leave you then.
This way a heated harsh disagreeable
conversation then occurred between the two of them until Hurr said, “I have not
been told to fight with you, only not to leave you wherever I find you until I
make you reach Kufaa. So, choose a road that does not take you to reach either
Kufaa or Madinah. During this time, I will write to Ibne Ziyaad, and you should
do the same, either to him or Yazeed perhaps Allaah will create a safety
solution to this situation by which I am also saved for being on a trial and
tested to go against you.”
You turned to the left of Azeeb and
Qādsiyah path and proceeded onwards. Hurr also continued side by side along
with you.”

At the time of dawn,
they stopped somewhere, performed Prayers [Salaah], and then moved on.
Hurr was also following side by side…. until they reached Nainwaā here, you saw
a rider armed with weapons and with a heavy bow on his shoulders coming towards
them. The rider came closer, but he did not greet the Blessed Imaam but greeted
Hurr and handed him Ibne Ziyaad’s letter. It read…
When my envoy comes to
you with my letter, immediately [at the same time] be harsh on Husaien
and do not let him camp anywhere except where there is no defensive protection
nor water. I have instructed my envoy to keep a stern watchful eye on you and
not to leave you until I am informed that you have carried out my command.
Was-Salaam.” –
Tibri vol-6-page-232-Ibn Aseer-vol-4-page-21
Hurr read out this
letter to the Hazrat Imaam Husaien
رضی اللہ عنہ
and his companions and harshly commanded them to move and camp at such a place
where there was no water or habituation. The Imaam companions said, “Leave us.
We will go to Nainwaā, Ghazariya, or Shafiya,” Hurr replied, “Oath upon Allaah!
I cannot do this, because this person the envoy of Ibne Ziyaad has been
appointed to continuously keep a stern eye on me.”
