The Event of Karbala-2
The accuresed Yazīd/Yazeed
ibn Muʿāwiya ibn ʾAbī Sufyān; commonly known as Yazid , was the second caliph
of the Umayyad Caliphate. He ruled from April 680 until his death in November
683. His appointment was the first hereditary succession to the caliphate in
Islamic history. His caliphate was marked by the death of Prophet Muhammad's
grandson Hazrat Imaam Husaien/Husayn ibn Ali and the start of the crisis known
as the Second Fitna.
[Radiyal Laah Anhu]
When Yazeed
sat on the seat of Caliphate [Khilaafat] he became so haughty and arrogant that
he acted in ways that are against the ‘Sacred Laws of Islaam [Shariah]. It
happens that the reins of power, the intoxication of control seize a man that
he acts unjustly. You may have heard many a time that initially Pharaoh was a
poor man but when he assumed power and became rich and powerful; as soon as he
sat on the throne, he claimed he was god. He said,
Ana
rabukumul aala!
I am your lord most high!
He asked
people to worship and revere him. Those who refused to worship and revere him
would be put to death. He killed thousands who refused to worship him. Yazeed
also became drunk with power. When his father was alive, he hid and
performed acts of sin and transgression, but now that he was in power and no
one could stop or question him, he openly performed acts of sin and
transgression.
Forcing Allegiance from the Pious…
He knew that due to his immoral behavior the great personalities
in the Islamic Community would never give their allegiance to him and their
refusal to pledge allegiance would become a reason for others refusing to do
so. He therefore sought to force the pledge of allegiance from the pious and
influential and threatened them with death if they refused. In this way he
hoped to deal with any threat to his Caliphate and rule. Thus, he sought
allegiance from Hazrat Imaam Husaien Hazrat Abdullaah bin Zubayr and Hazrat
Abdul laah bin 'Umar. [Ridwaanul
Laahi ‘Alaiehim Ajma’een]
These were the most pious and influential personalities of
the time. They were pious and influential and were the offspring of pious and
influential parents. There was no way in which they would swear allegiance to
such a sinner and transgressor like Yazeed. They refused to swear allegiance to
him. Hazrat Abdul laah bin 'Umar left Madinah, the Illuminated without meeting
Hazrat Abdul laah bin Zubayr and went to live in Makaah….[to be continued]
