Hazrat Abdul Qaadir Jilaani Ghaus e Azam.

[Rahmatul-Laahi ‘Alaieh]
From his experience, divine love is the biggest blessing to be attained. From his writing, love is a term to define the divine will, and is understood through favors given to the seeker.

“And the mercy of Allaah  Kareem the Exalted rains upon you, his pleasure (rida), certainty of belief dawns upon you, special favors and knowledge…”.

He associates love with faith, Iemaan, which he says grows day by day like a tree, for one who is in the state of love. It is immediately noticeable that his experience mirrors that of  Hazrat Imaam al Hajweri and Abu’l Qasim al Qushayri
[ Rahmatul-Laahi ‘Alaieh].

Another aspect of Divine love is described to be that the Lord keeps his servant barred from indulging in worldly acquisition, and one can detect a notion of this concept of being ‘singled out’ and ‘specifically chosen’ by the Lord in the Shaiekh’s other sermons, such as those found in the Futuh al Ghayb.

Love also concerns the people we love, the Shaiekh instructs his disciples, that if they love any from the creation, they should measure his thoughts and actions with the Qur’aan and Sunnah, if he is found compliant, he should be loved for the Almighty Allaah’s sake, and if he is found to be a follower of his own ego, he is to be shown enmity, or nafrat. and he ends by mentioning a verse,
“And do not follow the base desires of the ego, it will lead you away from the Divine Path”

This practice would allow an individual to maintain only love with the One True Lord [Allaah Almighty] in his heart and prevent it from tafriq, separation, or taqsim, meaning to be divided in love for many parties.

When only love of Allaah Taa’laa is in the heart, he loves those from creation who love Him and bears enmity likewise with His enemies. The Shaiekh outlines clearly in his book,

“Love is only with one Beloved”.

This is fundamental to his teaching. He describes how an individual creates attachments with so many transitory entities, such as money, or female companions, with the eventual conclusion being disappointment because they disappear, due to death or enmity.

According to the Shaiekh, man is in loss through these types of attachments, because it collides and contradicts his fundamental nature which is to know and love only Allaah Kareem, he questions his reader intensely,

“Allaah  Kareem the Exalted is protective over your heart’s allegiance, He has created you for Himself, do you then wish to attach yourself with one other than Him?”.
