8-9th MUHARRAM -RESPITE FOR ONE NIGHT & HAZRAT IMAAM’S SERMON-

The Events of Karbala-15

It was the 9th of Muharram, the Yazeedi force were impatient to fight. Hazrat Imaam Husaien رضی اللہ عنہ sent a messenger asking for a day respite before commencing battle.

HAZRAT IMAAM HUSAIEN’S SERMON TO HIS COMPANIONS

Hazrat Imaam Husaien then gathered his fellow travelers and companions. His son, Hazrat Alee Ausaat Zaien ul-A’bideen, narrates, “Although I was sick, I went and sat close to my father to listen. He addressed his helpers [Ansaars] in the following manner…

I praise Allaah Kareem entirely in happiness, contentment and in misery hardship. I praise the Lord the most High, Holy, Blessed, and Glorious God with best-est and worthiest of Praises and Admirations [Hamd O Sanaa]. I give thanks to ‘Him’. He has honored us with relation to the Prophethood and have bestowed us with ears and eyes and heart that hear and see, He has taught us the Holy Qur’aan, and has given us the understanding of the Religion, and made us from amongst His grateful servants

I do not consider any other companions more loyal and excellent than mine, and I do not regard any other family members as more pious honorable and kinder devoted to relatives than mine my supplications is that may Allaah Kareem grants you all an excellent reward [jazaa’e khaier] for this.

Listen take heed! I have certainty that tomorrow will be the day we will be facing the enemies. I happily permit all of you to leave in the darkness of the night with no grievance on my part. Take a camel each, and whoever leaves should take with them a family-member of mine. May Allaah Almighty reward you all for your efforts. After this, go to your respective towns and villages and disperse until Allaah Kareem eases this hardship for all of you. Without doubt, these people are after my life and seek to kill me, and when they do, they will not want to kill anyone else.”

Not one of them was prepared to leave saying, “O our beloved Imaam, if we leave your side at this critical moment, with what face will we face the Holy Prophet ﷺ on the Day of Judgment when he will ask us if we valued our lives more than his grandson’s life and hence, we left him in the clutches of the enemy and abandoned him? No! We can never leave you at this critical time. We will remain with you and give our lives for you.” When none were prepared to leave then Hazrat Imaam Husaien رضی اللہ عنہ told them that if you are remaining then become fortresses of patience and perseverance. He urged them to become so firm that no amount of force and oppression could shake them since this was the fight against falsehood and a great test.

He told them that Almighty Allaah, always tests his true servants. Mountains of problems will be unleashed on them, but they would have to be sure footed in the path of Allaah Kareem. They would have to drink from the nectar of martyrdom and become shining examples of truth for all the future generations. The Noble Imaam رضی اللہ عنہ instilled such patience and perseverance in his followers that they were soaked in the desire to be martyred.

THE BLESSED DREAM & ZIAARAT OF HOLY PROPHET

He asked them to rest for the night and leave the events of the next morning to the will of Allaah Almighty. Each one left the gathering and went to their resting places. Hazrat Imaam Husaien رضی اللہ عنہ entered his tent and started reciting the Holy Qur'an. Whilst reciting the Holy Qur’an, Hazrat Imaam Husaien رضی اللہ عنہ dozed off to sleep. In his dream he saw the Blessed  Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, approaching him and taking him in his hands.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, placed his blessed hands on the chest of Hazrat Imaam Husaien رضی اللہ عنہ and supplicated:

Allaah Humma Aatil Husaiena Sabrañw Wa Ajraa
O Allaah! Grant My Hussaein, Patience and Reward Him immensely!

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, then said to him, ‘my son Husaien, whatever is happening to you, remember I am not unaware on the contrary I am witnessing everything. All those that have armed against you, will be deprived of my intercession.’

Saying these words, and through the blessing of his blessed hand transforming Hazrat Imaam Husaien chest into a treasure house of patient perseverance, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, left.

Hazrat Imaam Husaien رضی اللہ عنہ awoke and related his dream to his followers. The Fajr Salaah was performed and thereafter Hazrat Imaam Husaien رضی اللہ عنہ supplicated to Allaah Kareem to keep them sure footed on the path of truth; grant them patience and not to let the forces of oppression to swerve them from the true path.

He prayed and his followers said, ‘May it be so’ [A'meen]. When these thirsty followers and princes had completed their supplication and were still seated then all hell broke loose. The Yazeedi force mounted their horses and surrounded Hazrat Imaam Husaien رضی اللہ عنہ camp.
