The Night of Niṣf Shaʿbān- Surah/ Soorah Yaseen  Reading & Dua

Surah Yaseen

The Night of Niṣf Shaʿbān

It has been narrated that in the month of Shaʿbān:

Our cumulative deeds of the past year are raised.

Our provision for the upcoming year is written.

Those who will pass away in the upcoming year are affirmed.

It is also narrated that Almighty Allaah forgives His servants on this night.

Important points to consider:

It has been reported by the people of God and the Ṣāliheen (the righteous) that the blessing of the night begins at the beginning of the evening at Maghrib and not only at the end of the night like other nights. At the beginning of the night, the doors of duʿa, forgiveness, mercy, and giving are available.

The Holy Prophet [Sallal Laahu Alaieh Wa Sallam] said that the deeds of the year are raised up on this night. The narrations report that this happens on this night.

The night is for Zikr/Dhikr, Duʿā’s, and Prayer.

As such, the Ṣāliḥeen have recommended that we put extra effort into worship on this night.

After Maghrib

Read Sūrat Yā-sīn

Please note that Sūrat Yā-sīn is to be read for our needs because in it is the verse,

His command is only when He intends a thing that He says to it, ‘Be’ and it is.

(Ayah 82)

Each time we read Sūrat Yā-sīn we can read the following duʿa after it:

O Allaah, O One who grants great favors and cannot be granted favors, O Possessor of majesty and honor, O One of generosity and blessings, there is no Allaah except You, the Supporter of those who seek help, the shelter of those who seek shelter, and the giver of safety to the fearful. O Allaah, if it is written in Your Book that I am one of the wretched one, deprived and banished, and that my provision from You is restricted, then erase O Allaah, through Your bounty, my wretchedness, deprivation, banishment, and the restriction in my provision and write about me in Your Book as happy, provided for and divinely aided to goodness, indeed You are capable of all things. O Allaah, surely You have said—and Your Word is True—in Your Book which You revealed on the tongue of Your Beloved Prophet whom You sent,

“God erases or confirms whatever He will, and the source of Scripture is with Him.”

(13:39)

My God, by Your great self-disclosure in the night of the middle of the honorable month of Shaʿbān, in which every affair of wisdom is made distinct and settled, remove from us calamities—those we know and those we do not know, and what You are more knowledgeable of than us —for surely You are the Most Mighty, the Most Honorable. May Allaah send blessings and peace upon our master Muhammad, [Sallal Laahu Alaieh Wa Sallam] and upon his family and companions.

Aameen.
