Hazrat Imaam Ash Shafai [Rahmatul Laah Alaieh] was born in Gaza, Palestine in 150H / 767CE and was descended from the Hashimi family of the Quraysh tribe to which the Holy Prophet, [Sallal Laahu Alaieh Wa Sallam] belonged. Often referred to as ‘Shaykh al-Islām’, al-Shāfi‘e was one of the four great Sunni Imams, whose legacy on juridical matters and teaching eventually led to the Shafi’ie Madhhab and school of fiqh.
