[also spelled Jilani/ Jeelaani/ Gilani] was a Soofie Shaiekh, Scholar and the founder of the Qaadiri Soofie order (Silsila). He was born in the month of Ramadan in 470 AH (1077-78 AD) in the Persian province of Jilaan/Gilaan (Iran), south of the Caspian Sea. His contribution to Islaam and Sharia was so immense that he became known as the spiritual pole of his time,as al-Ghaus Al-A'zam.

Shaiekh /Sheikh/Shaykh :
A term applied throughout the Islaamic world to respected persons of recognized seniority in learning, experience and wisdom. Its basic meaning in Arabic is “An elder; a man over fifty years of age.”
Sayyid-The word Saiyyid denotes his descent from Prophet Muhammad
[Sallal Laahu Alaieh Wa Sallam]
Abdul Qaadir:
This is HIS personal name, meaning “Servant of the All-Powerful.”
Al-Jeelaani:
A surname ending in “i” will often indicate the bearer’s place of birth. Shaiekh ‘Abdul-Qaadir Jilaani [Rahmatul Laah Alaieh] was born in the Iranian district of Gilan,[Jeelaan] south of the Caspian Sea, in A.H. 470/1077-8 C.E...thus the title Jeelaani.
Al Hasani Al Husaieni:
“The descendant of both Hazrat Imaam al-Hasan and Hazrat Imaam al-Husaien
[Radiyal Laahu Anhuma], the grandsons of the Prophet Muhammad
[Sallal Laahu Alaieh Wa Sallam].
“The lineage of Shaiekh Hazrat Saiyyid Abdul Qaadir Jeelaani [Rahmatul Laah Alaieh] is known as the Chain of Gold, since both his parents were descendants of the Prophet Muhammad
[Sallal Laahu Alaieh Wa Sallam]
His noble father, ‘Abdul Hazrat Abu Saleh Moosaa, traced his descent by way of Hazrat Imaam al-Hasan [Radiyal Laahu Anhu], while his revered mother, Hazrat Bibi Ummul Khaier Faatimaah [Radiyal Laah Anha], traced hers through Imaam al-Husaien
[Radiyal Laah Anhu].”
