EXCELLENCE OF THE MONTH OF RAMADAN

THE QURAAN ON FASTING

The first step for a Muslim to realize is the fact that fasting in the month of Ramadan is obligatory and that Allaah Almighty has prescribed it for us in His Blessed Holy Book:

Allaah (سبحانہ وتعالٰی) has told us about Fasting in Ramadan on several places in the Qur’an Al Hakeem.

“Fasting for a fixed number of days is prescribed for you, but if any of you is ill or on a journey, the same number (should be made up) from other days. And as for those who can fast with difficulty, (an old man, etc.), they have (a choice either to fast or) to feed a poor person (for every day). But whoever does good of his own accord, it is better for him. And that you fast, it is better for you if only you know.”

Allaah intends for you ease, and He does not want to make things difficult for you. (He wants that you) must complete the same number (of days), and that you must magnify Allaah (سبحانہ وتعالٰی) for having guided you so that you may be grateful to Him"

The reward for fasting is immense, as mentioned in the following Ahadees:

DIVINE LESSON

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (رضی اللہ عنہ) narrates that one day while Allaah’s

Messenger (صلّی اللہ علیہ وسلّم) was sitting with the people, a man came to him walking and said, “O Allaah’s Prophet.

What is Belief?” The Prophet (صلّی اللہ علیہ وسلّم) said,

"Belief is to believe in Allaah, His Angels, His Books, His Apostles, and the meeting with Him, and to believe in the Resurrection."

The man asked again, “O Allaah’s Apostle, What is Islam?”

The Prophet (صلّی اللہ علیہ وسلّم) replied,

“Islam is to worship Almighty Allaah and not worship anything besides Him, to offer prayers perfectly, to pay the (compulsory) charity (Zakat زکوٰۃ) and to fast the month of Ramadan.”

The man again asked, “O Allaah’s Prophet  (صلّی اللہ علیہ وسلّم)What is Ihsaan   (perfection or benevolence)?

The Holy Prophet (صلّی اللہ علیہ وسلّم) said,

"hsaan is to worship Allah as if you see Him, and if you do not achieve this state of devotion, then (take it for granted that) Allaah (سبحانہ وتعالٰی) sees you."

Then the man left. The Holy Prophet (صلّی اللہ علیہ وسلّم) said,

“That was Angel Hazrat Jibraeel (Gabriel)  (علیہ سلام)who came to teach the people their religion.”
