The Great Imaam Husaien left for Makkah-3- The Event of Karbala-
رضی اللہ عنہ
Hazrat Imaam Husaien رضی اللہ عنہ went to meet, Waleed, the governor of Madinah. He spoke to the governor who informed him that Yazeed has requested that Hazrat Imaam Husaien swear allegiance to him. Hazrat Imaam Husaien replied that he could NOT swear allegiance to Yazeed since he was a sinful transgressor who was not worthy of being accepted as the Caliph [Khalifah]. This was a proof of the resolve of Hazrat Imaam Husaien رضی اللہ عنہ If he had sworn allegiance at that stage… his life would be saved, his family would be safe, and he would have been short of no material comforts but the organizational system of Islam would have been disrupted and a precedent would have been set that till the day of judgment it would have become lawful to pledge allegiance to every sinful transgressor who assumes leadership.
Hazrat Imaam Husaien’s رضی اللہ عنہ refusal sent a message for all time that
he can bear many tribulations and see his family being martyred in front of his
eyes, but he cannot bear to witness the organizational system of Islam being
disrupted and the system set by his grandfather, the Holy Prophet ﷺ being
changed.
Hazrat Imaam Husaien رضی اللہ عنہ the great honorable Imaam presented proof
by his action and character and made it apparent to the world that this is the
state of a ‘Man of Allaah’, he would rather sacrifice his life and the lives of
those he loves but he would never submit to falsehood/dishonesty.
Through his actions he, proved the loftiness of his
character and made apparent his state. After he had refused to swear allegiance
to Yazeed, he gathered his followers and said,
‘O my followers, if I remain in Madinah, the authorities of
Yazeed will force me to give my hand, in a pledge of allegiance to Yazeed, and
this I would never do. Their insistence will lead to fighting and discord and I
don’t want to be the cause of mischief and in fighting in Madinah. Therefore,
it would be better for me to emigrate to Makkah.’ His followers replied that
they would abide by any decision that Hazrat Imaam Husaien رضی اللہ عنہ as their leader
would make.
He now made up his mind to emigrate to Makkah. Here one
should ponder as to what political turmoil had dawned upon him that Hazrat
Imaam Husaien رضی اللہ عنہ had
to leave Madinah, where his beloved maternal grandfather, the Holy Prophet ﷺ lay
buried. How heavy hearted he must have felt to leave that city for whose
visitation people come from far and wide, spending vast sums of money, leaving
behind loved ones, and closing businesses. It is that city for whose vision
every eye desires. He who was the spiritual governor [wali] of the city
had been forced to leave it. He was the dearly loved grandson of the Holy
Prophet’s ﷺ.
